Preparing a damaged sampler for display

This sampler had a woollen ground, which moth larvae had severely damaged. We cleaned the sampler and dyed a sympathetic backing fabric to a close a match with the original. We then stitched the sampler on the new support fabric.

Following our client’s wishes we mounted and framed the sampler back in its old frame.
