Burns material for re-display

Helen visited Dumfries Museum in order to assess a number of paper items from the Robert Burns collection.  The paper items had been on display for some years. The Curator was seeking advice on possible changes to the display conditions and mounting methods so the same items could be re-displayed in a refurbished gallery.

Helen was able to assess the condition of each item and give recommendations for small treatments for a few of them to improve their appearance. Advice was given for better display supports for some items; a long term plan was drawn up for treatments that could wait to be carried out.  Reassurance was given about the improvements that had already been made in the environmental controls that allowed less light to fall on the paper items.
